No, I'm more of a summer girl. My favorite months are April, May, and June. I love the warmth, the freedom, the blossoming bright colors. I love going swimming and the carefree, leisurely days.

By the time Labor Day rolls around and marks the unofficial end of summer, I get sad. I dread the cold that's bound to visit soon (granted, it's Oklahoma cold, but it can get down into the single digits and we have lots of (dangerous) ice), the long days of school, the shorter days.
I was still of that opinion until about three days ago. When we arrived back from Germany, our yard was filled with colorful leaves, the warm toned mums were blooming. The temperature had cooled down to a downright cold nighttime temperature of fifty degrees, while during the day it stayed a beautiful seventy degrees - perfect weather for leaving the windows open 24/7.

Yesterday morning I awoke at five - still jetlagged - and crept outside around six thirty. Clad only in my pajamas and a blanket, I sat down on the front step. The cold cement froze my still-warm-from-bed toes and the deliciously cool air wrapped around me like a jump into an icy pool. While the rest of my family slept, the sun began its ascent into the sky. Its light made the clouds a faint rosy pink, warming the grey morning air. The birds chirped and the crickets (it was only in the fifties... ;)) hummed their lulling song.
I relished the beauty of it all. I had gotten so wound up in thinking that fall was just the gateway to the cold, short days of winter that I had forgotten how lovely it can be.
It was such a beautiful moment. I wanted to bottle it up.

Yes, the days are getting shorter. Yes, the cold is coming. Yes, the long days of school are upon (some) of us. Yes, summer is over.
But? After this little taste of fall, I've decided I'm going to embrace it. I'm going to embrace you, fall.
Because after all, fall is the season when you can wrap yourself in a cozy blanket and sit by the fire. It's the season when the air is filled with the rich aroma of flickering scented candles and warm pumpkin bread. It's the season when there's a holiday every month. It's the season when you can wear jeans, sweaters, and boots. It's the season when you don't melt after being outside for thirty seconds; instead the crisp air is refreshing. It's the season that paves the way to the joy of Christmas. It's the season when you can jump in big piles of crunchy leaves and go to the pumpkin patch.

See? I was able to find a lot more of what I like about fall than what I dislike about it. And I could go on even further.
I'm just going to embrace fall. And you know what? I think I'm falling in love with it.
What is your favorite season?
-carlotta

Good job Carlotta!! Of course I LOVE fall. I love the smell in the air, the cool crisp evenings, the frost in the mornings...just LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteI am a summer girl also, but I like your attitude. I'm choosing to embrace Fall too! :O)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite season ever is Spring. I love how the weather is just perfect, not too hot and not too cold either, and I love how all the flowers finally blossom. I am in a place where it is summer all year long. I do love it but sometimes it just gets soooo crazy hot.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Carlotta! I agree with Diane--I am a summer girl, but I am chosing to embrace fall, instead of patiently waiting for summer. Which I will do also. :)
ReplyDeletexoxo,

I love the spring, but fall means bonfires, halloween, warm clothes, and the coming of snow and holidays.:)
ReplyDeleteI love fall--it's my favorite season. I love warm cups of hot tea or hot chocolate, crunching through leaves in boots, crisp air that smells oh-so-good, and the tingly feeling you get because the holidays are coming soon. Plus, I love the fact that school (and dance) starts up again in the fall. The schedule gets busier, but I don't mind. It's just nice to be in the middle of all of this gorgeous color for a few months.
ReplyDeleteLove you!
Elizabeth Rose
I know how you feel, a bit, about fall. I love it, yet all at once its the hailing of winter, which is kinda sad - I like the beginning of winter but it lasts so loooooooong in Ohio that...yeah, it can become depressing. =)vBut I always look forward to Spring, my dearest and favorite-est season. <3
ReplyDeletethat first picture is simply lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteGrowing up 5 miles south of the snow belt...I hated fall because it meant COLD. The actual nice fall last only about a month. Hated it. I still can't seem to like fall even after living in SC for 3 years. I'm a spring/summer gal. But I'm trying really hard to focus on the possitives. At least I get to decorate a little different. :)
ReplyDeletei love the fall - but i love summer, too! i love snuggling by the fire and the crunch of leaves. :) i am going to be driving through oklahoma on a road trip in two weeks. going to tulsa! i've never been! so excited. xo!
ReplyDeleteSee, I really love fall, but I also live in NC so our summers are miserable - no one likes the humidity of a NC summer! Fall though...mornings in the 50s or 60s, afternoons in the 70s...cool breezes, beautiful colors, that's my favorite. Spring is nice too but my allergies really flare up and once June hits, we're back at 100 degree temperatures!
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Carlotta! Fall's always been my favorite season- unfortunately, where I live, it's pretty brief! Enjoy your fall! :)
ReplyDeleteI love fall and spring!! I dob`t like cold wheather either.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I am going out on a limb here and admitting my favorite season is.....winter!!!! I love snow, snowboarding, snowshoeing, Christmas, and everything that winter brings!! On a very close second though, summer, fall, and winter are all tied. :-) I really enjoy every season and the changes they bring!
ReplyDeleteFall is my favorite season--whenever it comes, it feels as if it's a new beginning, and it's so refreshing. And so dang beautiful. Keep on embracing Fall, sweet friend! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the fall colors, but not the coats. I like spring.
ReplyDeleteI really love fall--it's my favorite season!
ReplyDeleteI love the last picture of the tree. :)
Gorgeous photos! I do love fall though. Just don't like winter. ha ha!
ReplyDeleteThat's good for you, Carlotta! I love fall, all the warm colors, cozy blankets, and warm drinks.
ReplyDeletepretty photos!
ReplyDeletei, however, love Fall! :) the colors, the chill in the air, the crispness, the chance to wear cute flats or boots with jeans and a sweater :)
Hands down, fall is my favorite :) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written!
ReplyDeleteamazing colors and shots!!! loove it!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely an Autumn girl. I love this view of it :)
ReplyDelete~Libby
beautiful fall photos! Sorry fall isn't your thing, at least it leads to new beginnings and new seasons!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written! I have always loved autumn- just about every season, really- but sometimes you cant't help but look at the bad rather than the good.
ReplyDeleteI agree - Summer girl all the way! Well, the beginning of Fall is usually pretty nice - cooler weather, which is a relief if you're the type of person who likes to lay out. Then again, it becomes cold too quickly and the cold just makes me SAD.
ReplyDeleteI love fall. But i'm a summer girl ( seeing that my birthdays in the summer and all ;) )
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!!! Especially the flowers, so pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say that fall is my fave! I just wish that it wasn't followed by rain, mud and wind. Would love the colors to stay longer so that I could really enjoy them. Fall just comes and goes so quickly.
ReplyDelete50mm lens. all the way :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, Carlotta!:) I'm in exactly the same (or, in a pretty close) mindset this fall. I used to strongly dislike fall because I knew winter was coming, and I really don't like winter:). But now...this fall has been pretty amazing, and I'm starting to think that maybe fall isn't so bad after all (sweaters and boots, apple orchards, holidays, huge writing contests...) I'll embrace it with you.:D
ReplyDeleteYay! Fall is definately my totally, without-a-doubt favorite season. Glad you're enjoying it too :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post! My favorite seasons are summer, and autumn (fall) I also love spring.
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice post you did, Carlotta! My favourite season is spring. I also really like summer. I'm so excited, 'cause it's coming up in December, whereas it'll be winter for you. We've already had winter, there and gone. (thanks goodness for that) I don't like coldness! Spring is just gorgeous at the moment. I don't like autumn (fall) that much.
ReplyDelete:)See ya
Wow! Stunning fall images, lovely color & compositions too!
