she cracks me up.
MeMe is hilarious. She's constantly making us laugh with her quirky sense of humor. Just the other day, I was bathing Lilly and MeMe, and out of the blue, MeMe says, “If I lived in south Asia and didn't have a dog, I would definitely want a dog.” Where do these things come from? ;)
photo challenge finalists and winner.
Oh boy. This is way, way overdue. I've been a bad blogger. I apologize! I had something super fun planned to announce this, but unfortunately, it didn't quite work out. Oops.
The finalists are Nicole, Sarah, Captivus, and Jaymi!
The winner?

Sarah! Congratulations, Sarah - you earned it. This photo is priceless...the look on the little girl's face is so adorable I could cry. Wait. That didn't make any sense. Never mind.
i love this weather.
These past few days the weather has been absolutely perfect. Highs in the seventies (a welcome change after all the below freezing weather before!), brilliantly blue skies, a shining sun – it's the best. And it doesn't help my spring fever at all – I keep on wishing that this wasn't just a warm spell and that spring was really here to stay. But, alas, it's January and winter will be back in full force soon. Sigh.
polyvore.
I've recently discovered Polyvore (I know...a little late) and I'm in love. I adore being able to create outfits with pieces from a myriad of stores all in one place. My current favorite fashions are light skirts (no longer than knee length), belts (mainly waist), pretty sandals, light pink nail polish, and aviator shades. I think I've encompassed these loves pretty well above, in my latest – and so far only – creation...I'm loving the skirt. And the clutch. And the sandals. And everything else. ;)
What are some of your favorite clothing pieces of the moment?
new shades.

new shades.
I said I was loving aviator shades...here's proof. Yes, I finally bought a pair. And I don't care if I look ridiculous wearing them - I like them and that's enough. Right? Right. ;)
photography tip.
Experiment in the manual modes of your camera! When I first got my DSLR, I made a promise to myself not to get stuck in automatic modes and jumped straight to manual. That was one of the best decisions I ever made. I can't tell you how many people I've come across that lament they wished they knew how to get out of the auto mode on their DSLR. So, my friends, I highly encourage you to take the leap if you haven't already!
do you like my new header?
I know, I know, I can't keep things the same for more than a month. I switched out some of the pictures in my header...I do so like little changes like this. What do you think?

in love with reading.
I'm a reader. When I was younger, I would always be the one with my nose stuck in a book. In fact, when I was in kindergarten and it was play time in our classroom, I would sit by myself reading. My teacher talked to my parents about it because she [the teacher] was worried I wasn't “getting enough interaction”. Heh.
When I discovered blogging, reading took a bit of a back seat, but lately I've picked up this hobby again. There's nothing I love better than curling up with an enthralling book and reading the hours away.
Are you a reader? Also, do you have any good book recommendations? I would greatly appreciate it :)
Have a lovely weekend! I'm off to enjoy the beautiful weather...

Jumping straight to manual, much like you, was the smartest thing I could have done. I couldn't have shot on auto for more than a week after getting my SLR before going straight to manual, skipping AV and such. I'm so thankful I did. I love having more control. :)
ReplyDeletethanks for picking me as a finalist!
ReplyDeletehaha I am a reader too and I have to say one of my favorite books was Mara, Daughter of the Nile. I've read it about ten times....hehe. I love your header! Yes, polyvor is an amazing website. I love! haha
ReplyDeleteTessa Brooke
Definitely check out Jodi Picoult's books if you haven't already come across them - she writes about moral dilemmas or controversies in realistic situations - such as mercy killings, donor siblings, death row. They're brilliant!
ReplyDeleteWell I am a sucker for everything Shakespeare! He is just classic and they are all must reads IMO. :)
ReplyDeleteLove polyvore! it is a lot of fun. :) I love the set above...so cute and has been craving warmer weather!!
Polyvore is a wonderful creative platform... It's so fun! And I *adore* reading. I just finished 'Wicked', which is wildly different to the musical, and also recently read Our Town by Thornton Wilder, and The Secret Lives Of Dresses--I think you'd like that one. It's about a vintage store. Pretty dresses and a little bit more!
ReplyDeleteYour new header is very cute, it makes me long for spring.
I really love any books by Melody Carlson, and Lynn Austin's "A Light to my Path" is really good!
ReplyDeleteI love the skirt in the outfit that you posted!
Enjoy your nice weather! I am so jealous. :P
Love the aviator shades! Last night, I went to a murder mystery party, and I had to dress up. My brother let me borrow his aviators and needless to say, I felt super cool weaing them. (:
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate--I LOVE to read, but I used to do it a lot more. Now my busy life doesn't seem to leave much time for it. But recently I've devoted myself to reading Les Miserables, and it is SO GOOD! If you've never read it before, I recommend it...and I'm only about a fifth of the way through. It's classic, of course, and I'm really enjoying it.
Carlotta, have you read the book the hunger games? it looks really good, and all my friends said it was...:)
ReplyDeleteI love the winning photo! Great choice.
ReplyDeleteshe sounds so so sweet & such a joy to be around!
ReplyDeletecongrats to the photo challenge winner! the photo is beautiful. i love the processing.
oh my, i'm loving this weather too. its gorgeous.
thank you for introducing me to polyvore!! i've been having more fun with it today.
love your shades.
i'd suggest marley and me. the harry potter series are amazing. anything by john piper. sherlock holmes or agatha christie. francis chan is also an incredible author.
hope you find lots to read!
have a great day. c:

First of all, I LOVE your new header! Second of all, I envy you for having spring weather! :D Third of all, my favorite clothing piece is my mom's scarf! It's really pretty, and it looks like a blue/green/white version of the scarf you show in your picture! It is in stripes, and I HAVE to show a picture of it on my blog!!! :D
ReplyDelete~Miranda
Pride & Prejudice (Jane Austen)
ReplyDeleteTo Kill a Mockingbird
My top two favorite fiction books.
LOVE the winning photo -- and the sunglass one is too cute! I completely agree with Manual -- I started using it the day I got my dslr. LOVE. Took me the first day or so to figure it out, and I'm still learning (when can you STOP learning, really?) but I can't imagine ever putting my camera on Auto. Except when I'm at a restaurant or something and hand my camera to someone to take a picture. ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day, sweet friend!

I love to read - actually it's my favorite thing to do. :) Some of my suggestions would be The Sherwood Ring and The Westing Game. I like your new header, those raspberries look delicious! ♥
ReplyDeleteAbby :D
I just wanted you to know that I'm in love with your blog! Your pictures have inspired me to get better at photography, and at posting on my blog :)
ReplyDeleteI'm in need of some book recommendations myself, but I actually have a blog with book reviews. I apologize, some of them may be on the younger side, but I'm planning on reviewing more YA soon! I would be thrilled if you would leave a comment on my book blog... really anything, including book suggestions!
Your Adoring Follower,
Natalia L.
The aviator shades are very fine! Cool portrait. :)
ReplyDeleteGone with the Wind is a great, read-by-the-hour book...you get totally wrapped up in it. And the Brontë sisters are good too. And Jane Austen! Her writing never gets old!
Carlotta! That picture of you in the shades is SO cool! I love how you are "offset" :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Sarah!
ReplyDelete:) Nice post, Carlotta!
Oh my goodness!! Thanks so much. I am glad you liked my photo. :) I like your new header and shades.
ReplyDeleteThe winning photo is beautiful! Love the shades and love the new header!
ReplyDeleteOn of my favorite books as a little(ish) girl was The Two Princesses of Bamarre. Not exactly High School level, but a favorite of mine nonetheless. I also recommend the Hunger Games trilogy. Excellent books!
ReplyDeleteRebekah
Love the new header :). I too am a reader! I love getting lost in a story and leaving reality for a while. Oh & I found Polyvore a few days ago, although your post helped me rediscover it and start making my own creations :D. I love it ♥.
ReplyDeleteP.s. I love your self portraits :), they are always so fun and creative.
Love the new header!
ReplyDeleteI love reading forever too! One series I read is the betsy-tacy series. The books start off easy then get harder and older. My sister, India and I love reading them. (especially the later ones)
Do you Americans call them "shades"? We call them sunglasses. Or are you calling a type of sunglasses "shades"?
~Holly
so...I've taken your advice and *tried* manual mode. In my defense I've never actually used auto, I tend to stick with P (program auto ;) or AV (aperture priority). So here is my problem with manual, maybe you can help me, I can never figure out what to set the shutter speed to!!
ReplyDeleteI still love your blog.
And watch your mailbox this week :):) hehe.
Hmm.. favorite clothing peices.. my dark purple converse with my purple pollover hoddie and i' love wear my moccasins around the house even thoug mom calls them old lady shoes :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the shades!
<3 the new header
I loved this book called
ReplyDelete"When You Reach Me." by Sharron Creech. Although, I dont know what kind of books you like, but I'd say that was one of my favorites. Any other book of her's are great too.
I also have read "Diary Of A Teenage Girl." by Melody Carlson. It sounds pretty stupid, but to me and my friend, it was AMAZING! Totally amazing. But, those may not be any kind that you like, so I just thought I'd share some of my favorites just incase. :)
Great post! I admit, I have been using automatic ever since I started getting into the hobby, but lately I've been experimenting with the different features. Like exposure, lighting, etc. But great reminder to switch.
ReplyDeleteAhh...books. One of those hobbies you should never let go of. I'm totally in agreement; snuggling up in your favorite chair with your favorite book is one of the best ways to pass time. I personally like Christian Romances, so I'd say (my favorite author) Melody Carlson, whose written over 200 books. My personal favorites would be the Diary of a Teenage girl series, Carter House Girls series, Love finds you in Sisters, Oregon, etc...but there's so many I've read that it's too hard to pick. I've read about 150 of her books since Summer and fell in love with them all, so if you're into that, she's awesome. And her style is relaxed and you can so relate to almost everything she says. Sorry, I think I just wrote a book myself :)
Sorry 'bout that...anyways, hope you find that perfect book!
Katelyn
I just started reading 'The Hunger Games' by Suzanne Collins...and it's REALLY good. I highly recommend it. And also, 'Crown Duel' by Sherwood Smith is amazing, as is 'Summers at Castle Auburn' and 'Gateway' by Sharon Shinn. (Sharon Shinn is from STL, and she's totally awesome. 'Gateway' is about this alternate version of STL, and it's really cool to be able to say "Hey! I know exactly where that street is!" Hahaha, it's a really fun read.)
ReplyDeleteCongratulation everybody! Great picture Sarah!
ReplyDeleteI just finished "Pride and Prejudice" and LOVED it! Jane Austen is an amazing author. P&P has so many changes of the characters character! When Jane first wrote it is was called "First Impressions". I think that goes better with the story than P&P. Both are good titles:) Now I want to see the movies! (Nice thing about any of her books.) I love the movie Emma and S&S!
