Last night, when I was informed we were going to the farmer's market in the morning, I admit I groaned at the early time. Getting up at seven? On a Saturday morning? No thank you, I'd prefer my sleep. But once I was able to rouse myself out of my bed, I was enamored by the morning. I was also greeted with the discovery that I had reached nine hundred followers. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
After admiring the outdoors, I slipped into my new favorite shirt (thirty percent off an already reduced price, baby) and some shorts.
Upon arriving at the farmer's market, the atmosphere was perfect. A sublime spring breeze was carried through the air and the morning sun warmed our backs. Even though it hadn't even reached nine am, it was hard not to have a cheerful disposition.
I must confess that I was overcome with photographer's fright and was hesitant to photograph anything, lest I was reprimanded or given odd looks. However, when faced with the decision to save myself from odd looks or to capture perfection, I chose the latter.
And now? While I might not be completely converted from my previous habits, I'm determined to make an effort to rise a little early, even if just to sit on the front steps for the sunrise. After all, don't they say that the early bird catches the worm?
What about you? Are you a night owl or early bird?

Those strawberries look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love the farmers market. There's something so summer about it.
ReplyDeleteas for me, night owl who loves the early morning, much like you.
Congratulations on 900! :)
Completely a night owl. :) I LOVE your pics!!! So pretty!! And your little sister is the cutest little girl I have ever seen. :D
ReplyDeleteYour blog is amazing, just saying! ;) I'm a night owl! But I can be an early bird!
ReplyDeleteI'm in between I think. I have to be an early bird though-I have to get up at 5:30 A.M. everyday (except for the weekends!!!) But I do love a late night too!
ReplyDeleteI get you on not wanting to bring the camera. Though I don't know why it feels so strange to want to take pictures!
Definitely a night owl! I hate getting up early in the morning when I need to. On weekends I get as much sleep in as possible. But I know what you mean about early morning magicness. It is truly amazing! I just like to stay up all night instead ;)
ReplyDeleteThe more I read about your daily life the more I feel like I know you! We seriously have so much in common its scary ;)
ReplyDeleteI am a total night owl, but *love* mornings as well. Gorgeous photos!
Beautiful photos! I especially love the last one. Since having my daughter, I've been forced into being an early riser. :) However, I think I do prefer the beauty of the morning to the late nights. Especially these early spring mornings. Perfect time to photograph.
ReplyDeleteThis might sound crazy, But we have so many similarities! Just from following your blog I've noticed a lot of stuff!- I'm not going to write everything out though. I'm exactly like you. I love staying up late. but the morning is just so peaceful. And, I'm normally in a better mood when I wake up early... Another similarity, I'm a pastor's daughter too. :)

i am totally a night owl! i love staying up until two o'clock in the morning while everyone else in the house goes to bed at eight at night, thinking i'm crazy. :)
ReplyDeleteI am assuredly an early bird. My plan for tomorrow? Wake at six or so, and catch the sunrise. Perhaps bike to the village and grab the papers and pastries for breakfast. For me, that's heaven. All before seven o'clock...
ReplyDeletewow, i feel your pain. i get weird looks for whipping out my camera, but usually i get over it and start snapping away. :)
ReplyDeleteand for the record, i'm a night owl given that i can stay up late and not fall asleep standing up. ;)
I wish I could be both a night owl and early bird, but I need my sleep. I would say I'm a early bird. Pretty pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the last shot, it is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely a night owl. :)
I am such a night owl. I love staying up late. That's the time of day that I like to get things done. Although, I would like to try getting up real early one morning, simply because I never do. But when morning comes, I know I'll end up changing my mind and staying in my cozy bed. ;)
ReplyDeleteEliza
I'm a night owl on weekends but this morning I had to get up at seven to take the ACT at eight. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures, especially the ones of your sisters!

I feel your pain--I absolutely love to sleep in but there is nothing like the morning. I usually force myself to get up knowing I will appreciate it once I do!
ReplyDeleteHello, Carlotta!
ReplyDeleteI recently found out about your blog and I just wanted to tell you how much I love it. You are such a talented photographer.
These photos are beautiful. I really love the strawberry ones. I can't wait until Summer, when we can go pick strawberries in the field.
I am definitely a night owl, but I love the early morning, too. :)

ReplyDeleteHaHa! I am exactly like you! I am a born night owl yet I love the feeling I get on a day that I do wake up early! I hate getting up early but I love BEING up early!
ReplyDeleteP.S. You got off easy! I had to get up at 5:15 this morning in order to go turkey hunting with my dad...WAY past my usual Saturday morning time =]
I am not an early person at ALL. I'm like you, I stay up very late on Fridays and sleep in!
ReplyDeleteI'm always kinda self conscious about taking out my camera, afraid of what people will think, but I always regret it later!
Dear Carlotta, we are the same!! I feel like a walking oxymoron as well. I don't really like getting up in the mornings, because I find myself staying up to late and love to sleep in. But I love the idea of mornings -- the rising sun and the earth springing to life under its glow. I wish it wasn't so hard for me to wake up, because then I would get to enjoy it all!
ReplyDeleteThis coming week I'm going to try and wake-up before the sun so I can enjoy its rise, and also so I can get a kick-start on my day. Wish me luck!
~Liz B
Night owl all the way, baby! But I guess I'm like you. I do like to see the beautiful sun rising over the horizon. I'm torn...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photography! Oh man Carlotta I only wish I could be a night owl! For me its like once I am awake, that is it, I can't fall asleep again. So waking up at 5:55 am this morning is not my forte.

ReplyDeleteHey, LOVE that picture of your favorite shirt!! It's awesome!
I'm both! I like to stay up late, but I LOVE the sunrise and the sun rays, much like you! :)

Night owl? Early bird? Depends on the season.
ReplyDeleteIn summer, I am such an early bird. I like to get up at dawn and sketch on the porch sometimes.
But winter? 5 more minutes, please! I will stay in bed as long as possible. :D
~Bree
Amazing post! You are an amazing blogger and photographer!
ReplyDeleteOh and I'm more of a night owl :)
I love these photos Carlotta! The farmer's market is such an interesting place and I love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a night owl, but I love watching the sun rise, so I suppose I'm an oxymoron, too. Lol. :)
ReplyDeleteThose strawberries look delicious!!
Gorgeous pics -- I'm always nervous photographing public settings too! But you did great!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a morning person. Like you said, enchanting. Good word.
YOur little sister is super cute!
ReplyDeleteawww! lovely post Carlotta! :)
well, I am both...sometimes i can be a very bad night owl...(staying up VERY late!)
ReplyDeleteI'm actually both! I like to stay up late. But I LOVE early mornings watching the world wake up :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not exactly sure, but I probably think that I'd be a night person!
ReplyDeleteThose photos are enchanting! (sorry, I don't know whether I've used that word before, but it means good!)
Gorgeous pictures. I'm an early bird, definitely. Although you couldn't tell by looking at me now, lying in bed still with my laptop. Hmz. I guess it's time to get up and enjoy the morning light :-)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about being overcome with photographer's fright. I get that a lot too. It feels really uncomfortable to take pictures when you know people are giving you strange looks.
ReplyDeleteI've always been an early bird but lately I seem to becoming a night owl more and more. I don't require much sleep, so I guess that's good!

Great pictures! I love the colors in the strawberry ones. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not really an early bird or a night owl...I like staying up late and sleeping in, but never too late. I also love mornings that are not school day mornings.
~Kendall
Accckkk, I meant I don't really know what I am...
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY know what you mean! I'm eaxctly the same way! I hate mornings. Until I get up and hear the birds tweeting and go outside to the absolute calm.... Its beautiful. :)
ReplyDelete110% night owl! I love to stay up late - watching movies, eating, looking at blogs...I can be up all night. I love mornings too, I just don't like the feeling of having to do school. :P Who does?
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful pictures and I love the shirt!
p.s. Could you do a post on fashion tips and a post on your makeup. It always looks really pretty!

FYI.
ReplyDeleteI love your photography.
Lily's smile is adorable.
ReplyDeleteSame here! I love mornings, but I prefer to sleep in! :P Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteSO glad to find that I am not the only girl out there who occasionally gets photographers fright. :) Every so often I freeze up and get nervous to take photos in public areas.. but in the end no one usually cares and I have fun and get good photos! Anyways. Sorry for the ramble. ^_^ I'm glad you took these.. they are beautiful!! :)
ReplyDeleteI came to your blog from Kelle Hampton and just wanted to say hi!
ReplyDeleteYour writing, and your photos, are gorgeous. I will say that a farmer's market is one of the things I don't mind getting up early for :)
Oh man, this describes me for sure. I am a night owl and would rather sleep later than get up really early, but at the same time I love early mornings haha. I guess I am a walking oxymoron as well. I get that feeling a lot, the whole feeling hesitant to take pictures for fear of getting strange looks. I'm sad to say that a lot of times that fear overrules and I end up not capturing those perfect moments. I need to learn to get over my fears. Great photos as always! Congrats on the followers! That's exciting :D.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection of photos. They are like candy to my eyes. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteoh wow, I don't know if I'll ever be an early bird. Wish I could, though. Gorgeous photos! So fresh and colorful
