It's early mornings at the farmer's market that make me remember why I love food photography so much.
Raw foods are my favorite to photograph, food in its purest form.
Often fresh from the garden, dirt still clinging to its crevices, it can't get any fresher.
The colors are astounding, from deep plums to red so bright it seems to be painted on.
While I classify myself as a lifestyle photographer, taking pictures of food will always have a special place in my heart.
I love everything about it, from the challenging aspect of making food look delicious to styling and arranging to capturing the beauty.

Also, I need your opinion. Watermarking: yay or nay? Part of me would feel more comfortable having my stamp on my photographs to (somewhat) prevent stealing and the other part of me thinks it's a bit tacky. The photos from this post are the first I've added a watermark – what are your thoughts?

I love the fresh, bright photos from the market. I love going to the market early 'morn! There's something special and unique about it!
ReplyDeleteWhat is watermarking?
~Holly
So beautiful!! I love the first picture and believe it or not the peas in the pod made me swoon. They made me think of little babies lying next to each other or something...okay, that was weird, but I'm hoping you know what I mean!! It's just all so lovely. Great post, I wish we had a farmer's market where I live. (okay, we probably do, but my family's too lazy to look for one :P)

Love your pictures! :) Did you ever go to Soulard Farmer's Market when you lived here in STL? If not, you should definitely pay it a visit when you are up here next! :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I think the watermark is a good idea.
love this post! and yes, i love that new watermark :) what photo editing software do you use? i love the simplicity of your photos :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lovely day! :)
ReplyDeleteI just went to one a few days ago, it was nice! :) :)
I love these pic's! And I say yay!
ReplyDeletei don't mind watermarks... and your photography is amazing! so if i were you, I would!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! And never fear, you definitely made the food look delicious...which reminds me that I'm hungry. ;P
ReplyDeleteI don't think that watermarking is tacky at all. If anything, I think it adds a level of professional-ness to photos. And your watermark is sweet and simple enough, so it's not obnoxious or anything.

Love the eggs in a cup photos.
ReplyDeleteI'd say yes to watermarking. It doesn't look tacky - infact it makes them look more professional.
I don't like watermarking, I think it ruins the beauty of the picture. :)
ReplyDeleteI'd say yay! I lovvveeee your current watermark -- too pretty! Will you be selling any of these pics on etsy? I'd need some photographs like yours hanging on my wall. :0)
ReplyDeleteI love your photos. I agree to have the watermark on your photos. But I think you should make the watermark overlay so it's a little transparent.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely yay! It's not that tacky really. I, for one, use watermarks on my photos.
ReplyDeletegreat shots! and watermark, to protect yourself from your photos being stolen.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos, sweet friend! I know the feeling with the tackiness, but it def is a lot safer. And your watermark is cute, so no worries. ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day!

How funny, I went to the farmer's market yesterday. :) Saw a lot of the same things. I love your photos, though. And I think watermarking is a good idea as long as it's not too prominent that it detracts from the picture. I think these are fine. I would watermark my photos but I'm too lazy and I don't really think anyone would really want to steal them. :P
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm Kadee. Love your photos! I'm a photographer too, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to photoshop that faded vintage kinda look. Could you explain to me please how you did that, if you want. :) Thanks
ReplyDeleteHolly: watermarking is the label of the photographer's name on a photo to prevent improper use of someone's images.
ReplyDeleteAnna: Yes, we did! I think we only went once though, but I loved it. Wish I'd had a camera then... ;)
Kelsey: I edit all my photographs with Lightroom 3.
I personally think it's okay without them as long as you tell everyone that those are your photos. But a watermark does give photos a spark.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos!
Hi! I'm Annie Rose and I found your blog through Katie Bennett, who I know :)
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are simply gorgeous!!! My blog is
rovinginmydreams.blogspot.com if you ever care to stop by!
Oh and I'm a pastor's daughter too!
Such beautiful photos! It makes me hungry. As for a watermark... I don't usually, because I use Picnik & it takes forever to load, but I would say that with the scale of your blog, it's probably a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI love these photos so much. :) So fresh and yet very vintage. I think you did a nice job with the watermark...kinda hidden, pretty subtle, not distracting from the photographs. Nice. I need to go to Farmer's Market now.
ReplyDeleteI think the watermakr is great - maybe make it a bit smaller, so as not to distract the viewer from the photo. =)
ReplyDeleteLove you!
~bree
I love your watermark, so simple and beautiful! :) I've been thinking about doing watermark lately, too. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteFarmer's markets always remind me of the outdoor market we'd go to every week when I lived in the Netherlands. It's something about the colors, the sounds, the fresh food...I just love it.
ReplyDeleteI'd say nay on the watermark. It's nice and tasteful, but for me, it just seems a little pretentious. PLUS it takes extra time to add it. :)
How is it that virtually each and every one of your photos are so perfect? I absolutely l-o-v-e coming here and seeing all of your photography. It is all so clean-cut and stunning.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the water mark looks tacky at all! I am with Hannah and everyone else; it is a lot safer. ^_^
Beautiful! Your farmer's market looks lovely! And i love the watermark by the way. Fabulous font!
ReplyDeletehi there,
ReplyDeletethough I've seen some distasteful watermarks on the net, yours isn't at all. :) Your blog is gaining popularity, and I wouldn't want someone stealing your perfectly-edited photographs and passing 'em off as their own.
-Sheean
I've found watermarks to be a subtle, yet powerful way to prevent image-thiefing. However, I would make the mark slightly smaller, and maybe a little more in the corner. By the way, beautiful photography!
ReplyDelete~Simi
I like watermarks but, I think they work best onthe sides of your photographs. Not all over the place. Just an opinion.
ReplyDeleteabout the watermarks--I this it's a really good idea (I heard about your photos found on weheartit), I keeps your photos a lot safer and great photographers (like yourself) should definitely use them. It kind of puts up a caution sign saying 'these are mine, not yours'.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures btw, I love the first one of the egg, so pretty!
--Megan
I think your water mark is very subtle..which in turn makes it unnoticeable and eye pleasing
ReplyDeleteyes, i think it looks very professional and it will keep the bad guys away!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photography! I love going to the markets.
ReplyDeleteAbout the watermark I am gonna have to say nay. Just because I like your photos a lot better without em'. I have just stopped putter watermarks on my photos because I think they take the readers attention away from the actual photograph. I understand the whole copyright thing though, so what ever you wanna do.
I always love your posts and your photos. Today, I especially like the photo of the carrots. :) And I say a big YES to the watermark. I noticed it by the third picture (yeah...I'm soooo observant), and I love it. It's simple and it's quite lovely. I think you should keep it. :)
ReplyDeleteso beautiful. x hivenn
ReplyDeletewatermarking is fine, as long as YOU like it! i just love your pics, carlotta!!
ReplyDeleteI love these bright photos of vegetables and sorts and YES on the watermark:)
ReplyDeletegreat pics this market looks so fine <3 great vegetables ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the watermark, Carlotta! I'm debating whether I like mine (it is just our logo) because of the fact that it is so BIG, but I think yours is weet and small. I would love to know how you did such a sweet edit on these (as you tend to do with all of your photos.) Also, I was JUST planning on doing a Farmers Market shoot (as I mentioned on my blog.) Grrrr.... YOu beat me to it AND your photos are better than mine will be :/
ReplyDeletego for the watermark. it won't look cheezy as long as it's somewhat faded.
ReplyDeleteThanks carlotta! I understand now : )
ReplyDeleteI love these photos! The last one is AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteYour watermark is fine. I watermark my photos too because I don't want them to get stolen.
love.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are gorgeous!!! I agree, raw foods are amazing to photograph!! So pure!
