I like Saturdays. Simple, relaxed, cozy -- just how I like it. And when you throw in an early morning, making waffles for the fam with the radio on and rain drumming on the roof? Perfection. I prefer to be alone in the kitchen, mixing, sifting, creating, waiting for the moment when I can open the door and walk out with a steaming platter of goodness. And so I can take photos undisturbed, too, of course ;)

But now it's the beginning of a new week, work and school have resumed after Thanksgiving break, and the quiet loveliness of Saturday is just a distant memory. I'm looking back at photos, counting down the days until Christmas -- just eighteen days until break! -- and listening to Crazy Girl on repeat (in other words, I am such a sap). I love my folk+indie artists, but there's something about country music that gets me every time. I blame my Texas roots.

What's your idea of a perfect Saturday morning?

my saturdays usually consist of sleep in's, coffee, work on mine and my sister's business, movies, lollies, gourmet lunches, family time and late night.

That right there? I could not agree more. Well, unless it was you in the kitchen with me. Because we wouldn't think each other was crazy for taking copious amounts of food photos. ;)

  11. I love Crazy Girl. It’s my ringtone, actually!
So since you’re 15 now, do you have your permit or do you have to wait until you’re 15 1/2?
In WI they make you wait, which I didn’t like, but that’s the way it goes.

  25. mmm, I love waffles. Those pictures make me hungry! :) Ofcourse, that may have to do with the fact that I haven't eaten breakfast yet, and I haven't had waffles in a while. :)

  30. Mmmm, waffles! I love to bake in the kitchen with the radio on, especially when it's a little nasty outside so the kitchen feels extra cozy. My idea of a perfect Saturday morning is snuggling with my dog while watching a movie. Or just sleeping.

  31. These photos are gorgeous! Have you seen Woman Of The Year? It's a Katharine Hepburn film; she goes into Spencer Tracy's apartment and begins to make him breakfast, using the waffle maker. But she's never made waffles before and adds yeast, which results in the maker breathing in the corner, and in the end it, along with the coffee percolator, explodes. Good stuff.

  32. I cannot even begin to explain how heavenly homemade waffles are. In fact, Mom made some yesterday morning...and because of this post, I asked if she could put some chocolate chips in them. And they were beyond heavenly.

The photos are very pretty too! Typically I hate food photography in black and white, but these are great!

  34. I hardly ever think of doing food photos in b&w, but this post seriously has me reconsidering it. I love how all of these look, the light is beautiful!
Your perfect Saturday sounds much like mine. I really enjoy going to our farmer's market too. Above all though, making breakfast is the most important start to a perfect Saturday, for sure.
