It fell. I stood there at the window, curtains parted, and watched as it fell in big, soft, powdery flakes. The snow drifted lazily down to the earth and blanketed the grass and trees and bushes. It was beautiful. There's something magical about the first snow, exciting and cozy and happy all rolled into one. I like waking up to an enchanted world the next morning, seeing the world transformed from drab greys and browns to sparkling white.

It's almost a sacred event, being the first to make footprints in that stunning, smooth, untouched layer in a quiet, muffled world. Sometimes I feel guilty about ruining it, but feeling the satisfying crunch-crunch underfoot, breath swirling about my head like a wispy cloud...it's worth it. But still, I always retrace my steps exactly, so the rest of the snow is still left pure.
It's all melted now, just a few remnants laying in shady patches. But oh, it was so beautiful while it lasted.

Have you had your first snow yet?
Oh Carlotta. This makes my heart sigh with happiness. No, over here in England there is no snow...
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the pictures! They all look really nice. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I love all these pictures!! I've been praying for some snow but we haven't had any since late October. So sad! I needed to go skiing!
DeleteOops. That wasn't supposed to be a reply. I'm on my Kindle Fire and it isn't the best for typing.
ReplyDeleteWe got a bit of snow as well, but I didn't get out to snap some shots before it melted. :( Your pictures are beautiful, though.

ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to have some snow by now. It's January and 60 degrees outside in Pennsylvania!
ReplyDeleteAww, beautiful. Yes, just yesterday actually! Haha. Your pictures are as always gorgeous. :))
ReplyDeleteWe've had several sporadic snow falls, and they haven't amounted to much. These photos make me jealous! I'm hoping that we'll have some before it gets too warm... Have fun in that snow! :)
ReplyDeleteso beautiful! i agree, the first snow fall is magical! I wonder if there will be any snow this winter in Texas!
ReplyDeleteIn love with the second picture... :)
ReplyDeleteWe are pretty much swallowed in snow. Today the roads were closed because we got so much! It's been snowing super hard pretty much every night! (What can I say, this is Canada :)

We've had our first snow here. It fell in a huge windy storm and didn't stay the night...but it was a good visitor. It came back today, and now it's being a good friend and letting us build snow forts with it. It's lovely.
ReplyDeleteIt finally snowed here in Massachusetts for the first time since October (yup, October) but it's already melted ;( Boo! Hopefully it will snow again soon.
ReplyDeletei love how you have snowflakes in your window. too cute. love this :))

It snowed for the first time here as well. There's something about snow that just feels magical to me. The world feels like an entirely different place and I just want to explore it.
ReplyDeleteWe had ours a month ago, but I don't think it'll come again, spring's going to come early again I do believe!
ReplyDeleteWe usually get ours in October... but this year it waited until just before Christmas! I was delighted to have a White Christmas. :) We are just getting our first big snowfall right now as I write.. and it is truly beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteJust two days ago we had our first snow, and I'm totally loving it. What's the point of winter without snow?
ReplyDeletexoxo
I'm so jealous. We got some crazy frost today {it's almost 6pm and it hasn't all melted yet} but no snow.
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteYOU SPEAK GERMAN? omg me too! deine fotos find ich wirklich schoen :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteoh, you are so lucky. we never receive snow down here (except for the 7 inches we received last year) and i hardly think we'll be getting any. friday morning did produce flurries and a thin blanket but i was stuck inside school all day and it melted by the time i got out.
ReplyDeleteHere in arizona, we never get snow. Today i wore shorts. And its january!! One of these days, i WILL experience snow though! :) anyways, love your blog!!

pretty pretty. we had a snowstorm on thursday, and I'm so very happy that it has stuck around. though, for the first day or two it did make driving around a bit difficult. (: but you're right--so worth it!
ReplyDeleteSo breath-taking! Those snow flakes in the window are precious! I love winter. We had our first snow in September, so I'm almost ready for Spring to finally make it's grand entrance! :)
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't had my first snow yet because it DOESN'T snow here! :( :(
ReplyDeleteI envy you...I would love to walk in the snow.(I know this sounds completely out of your mind but i've never actually been to the snow..) There the secret's out I have not touched snow ever in my life. :( Hopefully I'm not the only one. :)
Pretty photography Carlotta!
While I am so happy for you, I'm so fed up with NC weather. One year we have six snows & the next we have more 60 degree weather more than we have cold temps. Oh well, I shall wrap up in a blanket with a cup of cocoa whilst looking at your pictures to have my own snow day :)
