I've never had much of a green thumb. Or rather, maybe I had the teeniest hint of a green thumb that never saw the light of day because I was too lazy to try. Regardless, I tended my own little plot of soil in the family garden this year. I watered and babied my plants faithfully and my efforts were soon rewarded. There is nothing like picking sun-warmed blackberries off the vine, popping cherry tomatoes like candy, or biting into a freshly pulled carrot, dirt still clinging to the crevices. Then there's the magical feeling of soil sifting through your fingers, rich and damp, the proud sensation of seeing tiny jewels of color poking up amid the green, and the pure elation of harvesting produce grown by your own hands. It takes work and dedication, but it's worth every moment. Though the idea has been brutally romanticized over the years, there's a part of me that aches to move to the country and work on a farm. There's a certain beauty in hard work and in the act of growing, producing, and eating your own food. I could probably never be a proper farmer, but sometimes it's so very appealing.
Do you garden?

Oh yes! Gardening is a huge part of me as well - my family is even planning on a farm/stand in the next few years. Your produce looks beautiful! Unfortunately, our garden is suffering from lack of rain for almost a month, but hopefully we'll have some vegetables like this! :)
ReplyDeleteYes! We have a big(ish) family garden. It's nice cause we have our own manure to put on it. (gross? only if you want it to be. :P) My 6 year old sister was out at the cows today and said, "WACHEL! This soil is perfect!!" :D I enjoy eating fresh produce. :)
ReplyDeleteYou take the most gorgeous shots. <33
ReplyDeletex.
Beautiful shots, Carlotta! You are honestly one of my favorite bloggers :)

gardening is so close to my heart. my grandpa has a huge garden, my mom has a fairly good sized garden, and I want to have a big garden someday. there is something so thrilling and satisfying about eating the (sweet) fruit (or vegetables ;)) of your labor. :)
ReplyDeletewe haven't been able to have a garden for the last few years, but when I was little I had my own row of our big family garden, where we planted so many tomatoes that we couldn't pick them fast enough. I'm always so nostalgic for those gloriously simple summers :) xx.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the one of the blackberries :)
ReplyDeleteI love gardening, this year I just did something simple and planted some flowers. actually forgot about them and they all of the sudden started to sprout up! It made me pretty happy=) beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures; my favorite was the blackberries... perfection. And I would love to be a farmer!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so beautiful! It makes me long for a garden, which we almost planted though then due to health it could not be completed. It also makes me long for a lovely walk. Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteI want a garden. so much. but my mom really doesn't have the time to put that kind of work into it, so I'm just living off the dream of having a lovely little garden someday. ;]
ReplyDeleteI would love and adore having a garden. Unfortunately, where I live in Texas, underground is made up entirely of rocks and we're almost unable to grow anything! Though I have considered raised beds... ;) Beautiful photographs, Carlotta, as always.
ReplyDeleteI have a huge strawberry patch, chives, basil, and mint planted :)
ReplyDeleteYes! I have a tiny garden, though it's mostly in the shade and often goes untended for my lack of time. But it's so rewarding when my cherry tomatoes, peas, berries, and whatever else I may be growing are finally ripe, and when my flowers bloom.
ReplyDeletelovely post :)
yay for gardening. and yay for your green thumb. it really is one of life's simple joys.
ReplyDeletethis post just rekindles our twinship. and hey, you don't have commit to a farm of your own, because you'll always be welcome at mine. take whatever you want. ;)
ReplyDeleteWe had some tomato plants in our small backyard last year and this summer we've added a raspberry plant as well. So yes, I do a little gardening, and it is fun to watch your plants grow from nothing into, well something! :) Lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteeven simple photos like these are all captured so well and tell so much about them! i am so NOT a gardener, but very, very, very occasionally i feel like planting, growing and eating produce from the garden, VERY occasionally!!
ReplyDeletereally Holly, very occasionally? I would have thought you love gardening! obviously I'm wrong. :)
DeleteVery good photos Carlotta! I love gardening, and soon we're going to dig
ReplyDeletea huge veggie-patch in our garden! I can't wait to plant the vegetables! :)
nice job! those blackberries look mouth-watering. :) my family has a very small garden, but I always take part in the harvesting. it's definitely the best. :)
ReplyDeletein my postage stamp of a backyard, there's not much room for gardening -- i tried to grow my favorite fruit, cantaloupe, and it took over the whole thing! :) but your words make me want to try again. kudos to you, carlotta.
ReplyDeleteps. photos? stunning. just stunning.
I love the 3rd and fifth photos. Amazing
ReplyDeleteWe gardened last year, and got the most delicious tomatoes (talk about popping cherry tomatoes like candy! Yum!) My seven-year-old sister has an incredible green thumb; she is very proud of her green beans (which are growing very nicely now). :) Love the pictures, the one of the blackberries especially! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! We've had a family garden for as long as I can remember. Though I used to say that I'd probably never have a garden when I got older, I'll have to admit that it's grown on me to the point where I actually kind of enjoy it. It's so rewarding to have produce to show for all of your hard work, and have the satisfaction of a job well done :)
ReplyDeleteThe first three photos are SO beautiful. This whole post is wonderful, makes me want to get out in the family garden (to photograph). I'm not a fan of gardening... :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! Someday I hope to have a garden flourishing full of herbs and fresh veggies! Your garden makes me look forward to it even more! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Carlotta! :) I just did a post today about our recent {and first} garden beginning experience. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis is just too lovely.

ReplyDeleteNo, but my family used to have a huge garden, which, by now has been moved to one about a 16th of the others' size.

love the earthy tones in the photos....so very pretty!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos. I have always wanted to garden, but it is so very hot here in Texas. Your garden is very lovely, and I bet you got a lot of satidfaction from it :)

These pictures are gorgeous! It looks like you've been doing an amazing job tending your garden! I've been dying to start one. However, I'm in Pennsylvania which is apparently land of the boulders only a few inches down. We'd have to get a tiller and whatnot just to get started. I'm thinking about garden boxes though. I hear gardening is so therapeutic. Anyway, I always love admiring your photos. The way you capture such ordinary, yet beautiful moments is so inspiring! Have a blessed weekend!
ReplyDeleteI just saw your guest post over at Jenn’s blog. I *weally* like the one of the berries!
