Over the weekend, we went on a little daytrip to Holland. It'd been a few years since I'd been in the country and I fell in love with it all over again. I love the quiet distinctiveness it has and the way everything pops against the gray background of the sky. Also, the bicycles! People use bicycles as a prime means of transportation all over Europe, but in Holland they take it to a whole other level. At times, the traffic created by bicycles can be worse than the traffic created by cars, hah!
The outdoor market we visited was another highlight. So many languages and so many people! I got the biggest kick out of the vendors yelling at the top of their lungs, trying to get their merchandise some attention. The atmosphere was sublime and it made the rainy day so much more cheery.
Hey Holland? You're pretty cool. I like you.

Holland's definitely on my "to-go" list. Let's be real, though...what isn't? It looks so pretty. And I'd like to try some of that candy, too.
ReplyDeleteThis is great! How fun. :) I really REALLY like the design of the first photo - perfection. :D
ReplyDeleteWow, that candy looks scrumptious. And I am loving that stormy sky! Great shots, Carlotta, as always.

ReplyDeleteCarlotta, first of let me tell you, your photography is lovely! I love looking at these pictures. I have never taken much interest in Holland, there were always other places that peaked my interest more. After looking at your photos and reading your post though I long to go to Holland, with my green vintage bike that is!

That is great! Spending a morning at a food and craft market in Holland! What could be more perfect? Lovely photography.
ReplyDeleteI love the sunflowers! And all the pictures really. It looks like such an awesome place! I like that you capture the real life of places you travel to. Most times people just snap pictures of the biggest things that are landmarks or whatever, which can be nice in moderation, but this is the kind of stuff people really want to see. They want to know what its really like and you've captured it all so well! :)
ReplyDeleteGah, so lovely, so lovely. I must visit Holland now!
ReplyDeleteWaw! Nice to read that you're now in Europe. I love the photo's from Holland... We're changing places ;-) I'm in America and you in Europe, maybe you like to visit Belgium too? That's were I live, but now I am for 3 months in the States (Wisconsin).
ReplyDeletewe actually flew into brussels (and will be flying out from there as well)--so yes to belgium! it's such a pretty country :)

ReplyDeleteWow- now I really want to travel! :)
ReplyDeleteOooh! I've always wanted to visit Holland, especially now that some of my friends are part Dutch and drive up to visit their family. I also met a very sweet Dutch lady when we went over to Paris a few weeks ago with friends, and yes, she said that they sold their car and now just use bikes! And, those strawberries and candy look so yummy!! (kind of opposite things, ha!)
ReplyDeletethis looks magical. i miss traveling sooo sooo much
ReplyDeleteMy best friend's mother is Dutch, so i've heard lots of stories of over there. Just this past Fourth of July some of their friends from another city in the Netherlands came to visit - the children spoke very little English, but it was fun to get to the know them. Anyhow, what a wonderful opportunity! Keep having fun in Europe :)
