Christmas trees are one of my favorite parts of the season. We usually just go to the local hardware store. Although sometimes we go to the Christmas tree farm.

oh, carlotta. i read this post and i loved it. i think i might build a fort. i love doing things that make me remember when i was a little girl. and i love your photography. it's stunning! :)

usually we drive for a few minutes until we see a good tree, then we park on the side of the highway, my dad chops it down, and we bring it home. (i live in a small village, er, town.) but this year we moved (a couple blocks down from our old house) and the previous owners of the house left a 9-foot fake christmas tree that we decided to put up. it's pretty beautiful. but because i couldn't bare to go without a real one, my dad let me have a [small] real tree in my room. i love my parents :)

another tradition of ours is to do gift opening on christmas eve (instead of christmas day). and we open stockings on christmas morning. every year my grandmother buys us all new pajamas, so we wear our pajamas for all of christmas day.i love it :)

We always cut down our own tree . . . our "traditional" farm is about 45 minutes away from our house. This year was my family's 20th year of cutting our own down (starting with just my parents). On the way there and back we always listen to this Nat King Cole CD we have (it used to be a tape but... well my mom wanted to upgrade :D) It always takes about 45 minutes to an hour to pick the perfect tree, and then we all go to the big red barn and drink hot apple cider or hot chocolate :) :)

You're tree looks beautiful, Carlotta. And I love the fire picture . . . wish we could make a fire but we have to get a screen before we do for my little brother) :)

Ah, getting the Christmas tree is always one of the best parts. One of my favorite things about Christmas is the shopping. Going out and spending the day with just your mom or dad, and getting little treats on the way, while you shop for your beloveds is something that makes me very happy. :)

We have a fake tree and we've got a tradition, me and my dad. We throw around the branches to check for wasps, and then we build it up like it's the most complicated thing ever, and then we sigh in exhaustion and glee at the end.
We only put our tree up yesterday. Any earlier and it feels less special.

My mom is afraid it will make are floor all sticky and pine neately so we always have a fake Christmas tree (i always spray pine tree Lysol around it so it still smells like Christmas. :)

I love your photos, Carlotta. They perfectly capture the spirit and joy of the moment. We get a real Christmas tree every year, too, but unlike your family, we don't get to chop it down ourselves. :/ Oh well, you still get to enjoy that wonderful and oh-so-Christmas-y smell that issues from the bows! :)

Back in the States we'd always go to the farm and pick it out, not hard since they grew like weeds! There is something so special about getting to take the tree yourself. And then we'd drink hot cider and eat candy canes.
This year though, we picked it up from a local family who grows them. Not quite the same, but we're making new memories.

i would tell you my favorite photo but they're all my favorite, so there.
unfortunately we've never had the pleasure of getting a real tree {for cleaning reasons, since we have nothing better} but when i settle down and get married i think i'll coax my hubby to get a real one. the smell is so enchanting. and lilly is gorgeous. seriously.

for the past couple of years we've gotten a tree from a local nursery or store. one time we didn't realize the store had closed. we loaded up the tree and then had to bang on the window at the people closing up to pay for it. I'm not sure they really liked that...:) good memories though.
